Getting Started

Intro

Okay, you have decided to play Kingdoms. You have created your username and registered yourself and now you're here. Now you are looking at all the links to things such as "TAKE TURN" and "LABOR", and wondering where to begin. We have put together this section to help you on your way to building a successful kingdom. The first thing to do is familiarize yourself with the game. Take a look around by clicking on the links and seeing what information is contained in what link.

This might be a good time also to take a look at the stats in the Spells, Armies or Buildings pages and make sure that you have chosen the race that best suits you. Each race has different advantages and disadvantages.

Now that you are the race you want to be, and have familiarized yourself with the links, it is time to start building your kingdom. The sections below will help you do this. Good luck and remember that above all else, the most important part of the game is to have fun.

Labor

This is the first link that you need to visit. You will notice that you have a listing of the type of workers you have. They are named differently for each race but all races consist of the same type of workers. You will have Gold, Food, Weapons, Runes, Wood, Stone and Builders sections. You can click on each type of worker to see extended information on what each worker produces and is paid. (see figure below)

You will notice that next to each type of worker unit it tells you the current amount of workers assigned to this area, hire and a fire section and then a percent column. In the beginning these fields will be blank until you hire workers to each area. Below these columns is the "SET NEW LABOR VALUES" button. Anytime you make a change to your workers, this button needs to be clicked to set the values, otherwise it resorts back to the old values as soon as you leave the labor page. Below the set button is a line that tells you how many unemployed workers you have and what percentage of auto complete you have set.

Now that you know what the information is on the screen, you will need to hire workers to your areas of production. You are defaulted with 1,000 unemployed workers in the beginning. You will need to place workers in each of the areas, with the biggest chunk of them going to food and gold production, and setting your percentages. The percentages tell the game how you want new workers that migrate to your kingdom placed into labor. Your auto percentage at the bottom should say 100% when done. When finished assigning the percentages, hit the set button to save the changes. To hire workers, you type in how many you want in the hire column and then click on the "SET NEW LABOR" button. You will now see that it shows the amount of workers you hired under the "CURRENT" column. (To fire workers you will do the same thing, just type the amount you want to move from this area into the fire column and set new labor button). Because each race has different production amounts, it is difficult to give an exact number you need to assign. Below is a rough estimate to help you get started.
Percent Examples
Resource typePercentagesWorkers
Gold40%435
Food, Steaks, Bread, Souls20%300
Stones, Blocks, Rocks, Tombstones15%75
Wood, Logs, Kindling, Caskets10%75
Runes, Mana5%40
Weapons5%15
Builders5%60

Once you have set all your percentages and hired your workers to that areas you want them, You will need to go to "PLAYER OPTIONS". Scroll down till you find the part that says "DEFAULT LABOR PLACEMENT". Here you will need to change the "Auto place into" from unemployment to your gold workers and save your changes. (note the buttons below do nothing, just examples)

Placement

Now it is time to test your work by taking a turn. It is highly recommended that you only take one turn so that you are able to catch any problems before it affects your morale and makes your people run to another kingdom. Go to the take turn screen and take one turn. Check your production levels and make sure that everything is in the positive. If there is an area that is negative in production, go to your labor menu and adjust your labor accordingly by taking some workers away from the areas that are producing an excess. After adjusting the labor and saving the changes, try taking a turn again. You will do this until you have all production amounts in the positive. You should see all your resources slowly growing. In the beginning it is harder to keep everything leveled out because you are also building your buildings and military. For more on these two items consult their pages.
